The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) has become renowned for their excitingly vibrant delivery of Russian repertoire and tonight’s all-Russian program will not disappoint. It’s been more than three years since TMO have been able to present an all-Russian program which will be led by charismatic Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Sarah-Grace Williams, and this promises to be an event not-to-be-missed.
This Russian spectacular begins with Shostakovich’s Festival Overture which is full of fire and brilliance. Originally written for Official Purposes, The Festival Overture is a vivacious and brilliant orchestral firework which combines astonishing orchestral virtuosity and death-defying speed with instantly catchy melodies. The overture poignantly leads us into Borodin’s grandiose Symphony number two which is filled with emotion and brooding intensity to continue a typically Russian emotional musical roller-coaster. The energised night of music comes to a formidable finale with Tchaikovsky’s epic journey through fate and destiny, with his commanding Fourth Symphony.
